    February 2017 Geocacher Profile

The Membership Relations Committee is happy to showcase some ArkGeo Geocachers through the "Geocacher Profile". The committee thought Sherry Siler aka ssiler should be the next cacher to be in the spotlight.

    What is your geocaching name?

How did you choose your handle?
It is the first letter of my first name and my last name. (I didn't realize that my user name would be my handle when I was creating my account, and then after I had found a few caches, I didn't want to change my name.)

How long have you been geocaching?
    Since 2012

How did you find your first Geocache, and which one was it?
My first find was The Holocaust Memorial, GC 19101, NM. I was attending a Career and Technical Education conference and a group of my peers and I, one who was a cacher, found it.

Who usually goes with you when you go caching?
My sister, vbrerwer64, and I cache together most of the time, but we do team up with others from time to time.

How long will you work on puzzle caches before you give up?
Sometimes 1 second, sometimes until I figure it out.

What town/areas have you most enjoyed caching in?
I like grabbing a cache where ever I am, especially when traveling.

    Do you do paperless caching?
There was caching with paper? That must have been before my time!

What kind of geocaching rig do you use?
    Samsung Note 3 cell phone

Why would you recommend anyone else to take up geocaching?
Geocaching has shown me interesting places that I didn't know existed and taught me about topics I didn't know about. I have learned quite a bit about history and local area historical sites while geocaching. I like getting outside and spending time with my friends and my sister.

    Where are you originally from?
    Alma, AR

In what states have you geocached?
Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin

What was your first event ever attended?
Lake Louemma Park CITO Event by JFFOK in April 2013

How many caches have you found?

Which type of cache container do you prefer over the rest?
The ones I find! I like them all, but an ammo can in the woods is much better than a nano in the woods. I do like finding challenging caches.

What was the most famous cache that you have found?

Do you use disposable batteries or rechargeable batteries?
I always have my charger so I can charge my cell's battery!

Do you enjoy hiding or finding more as your part of the hobby?
Both are fun. I like seeing who will be the FTF on a hide and I enjoy finding other COs caches, especially right now as I am working to fill my grid.

Do you have a personal goal in mind when you make a hide?
Sometimes, like when we placed the 64/64 run, but mostly just to provide caches for cachers to find.

What is your favorite type of cache hide?
I don't have a favorite, but I do like to use interesting cammo on my containers.

Out of all your hides, what are your personal favorites that you take pride in?
I like my Unpretty as a Peacock, it's original container because it was U-G-L-Y.

What do you think the proper hide to find ratio should be to keep the sport fresh?
This is not anything that I have thought about!

How did you end up getting into this wacky hobby?
Friends at a conference were going and asked my to go with them.

    What's your favorite geocache?
I have several: The Day the Music Died-GC8519, View Carrie-GCE02C are two of my favs.

If money was no object, where would you like to go geocaching?
I guess to find a cache in every state, province or country where there are caches.

Do you like geocaching by yourself or in a group?
    I enjoy both.

How many First to Finds do you have?

Are you a First to Find person who is always set on go and if so, how many miles out do you have your settings on to get notifications?
I have my notification settings for 50 miles, but I am not set on go. If it's close by and I am not already doing something, I will try.

Do you have any other hobbies besides geocaching?
I enjoy traveling, hiking, reading, shopping, spending time with my sons and family, trying to grow flowers, and mowing but not weed-eating. I enjoy my job-I'm an education junkie.
