Hi all,

The in-laws gave me a GPS for Christmas. Initially it was for the kids but they're a little young yet. We found our first two finds yesterday and had a blast doing it. It was pretty cool because we just stopped off at them on the way to a friend's house. We'll probably branch out of Little Rock when we find all the ones here.

Good luck and welcome onboard.....the best thing to do is read some and do a lot of experimenting; punching in grids and walking around and enjoying the sport. It will be lots of fun for you and it is a great family activity!!

Sorry for not answering sooner, "punching in grids" would be manually inputting the latitudes and longitude coordinates for a cache. As you progress in the hobby you will be able to download the grid coordinates of the caches or you will always be able to manually (we call that fat fingering) in coordinates. The problem is when you do many caches a day or a week you will ultimately make manual input errors and end up going to a wrong place and spend looking for a cache which is not where you think it is due to "fat fingering" the wrong coordinates. When you go a specific cache you will see somethiing like "click to download icon", you will be able to download coordinates directly into the GPS bypassing the manual entry. You will be able to download in two formats, LOC waypoint File (*.loc) and GPS eXchange File (*.gpx). You get two things here, faster entry of coordinates and no mistakes due to manual entry. Hope this helps some!!
