Secondly, I think it is a great idea to set up a general forum category dedicated to "non-caching" needs of the geo-community (e.g., prayer requests, etc.). Some may disagree and feel like this hobby is strictly for lighthearted fun, but we are not Groundspeak. We have our own organization, and we can shape it as we see fit at a more local level. These are real friendships we are forging, even bordering on "family." It hit me several weeks ago as I was creating a contact list for my new DeLorme InReach PLB: "Who would aid me in an urgent situation out in the middle of nowhere? Who could even find me with just a set of coords? My geocaching friends, that's who." And I would do the same for any of our community if I were able to do so.Funny cc you should mention this as a while back I was waaaaay out in the boonies caching and munzeeing when my new truck got stuck ("Old Green" would have made it just fine ) and had to call a buddy to come get me out. Luckily I was still under the free trial subscription of OnStar because I had no cell service what so ever. Since he wasn't a geocacher or know anything about finding a location with coordinates I had to walk 2+ miles to the closest named road for him to find me. It would have been SOOOOO much easier to tell him I'm at such and such coords- come pull me out and me just sit back and relax and wait on him. That would be great to have both a special forum thread for prayers and other requests (that we maybe wouldn't want any random Joe on the facebook page) for members of the association. An addition to the phone a friend would be good if we could put something like "If you are down in Lower Arkansas and get stuck you can call arkfiremedic because he has a 4X4 truck, a chain and some rope  to get you out if you need it" or know someone who could.

Let me share my "funny you should mention this" moment. While out caching with Mama and the girls, we had pulled up to a cemetery cache in a remote area of Marion county with the light of day having already departed. The "we can get just one more before heading home since we are this far out" conversation had already taken place. I put the MCU in park and shut off the engine. As I was only going to search for a short period of time I left the lights on to light my path in the general direction the gpsr was pointing. I'm sure you can already see where this is headed. Well you would be right. I looked just a little longer than I had intended and when I get back to the vehicle the lights flickered slightly and the engine would not crank. After a frustrating walk in the night to look for a house that was unfruitful and then an unfruitful call to Marion Co. Sheriff's dispatch, I call my oldest son to come out to rescue us (both of us using smartphones I was able to message him my coordinates for him to get to us.) Long story short after sitting for about 15 minutes, a car happened along and I was able to flag it down and to jump the battery and get us going before my son had to make a 40 mile round trip to rescue us. We got lucky.

So the point I am working around to is that I am in agreement with the line of thought here. The PAF list could be for more than just help on a particularly vexing cache. I for one would be willing to come to the aide of someone who is "stranded" while out and about or at least help them find aide. Being a teacher it might sometimes be difficult to get away but it also gives me connections as I am sure most of us have those "connections" in our lives. Coon&Bud and I are both music teachers and can attest to the power of our state organization for help and prayer in times of need.

For the record if anyone in the North Central Arkansas area (within a 50 mile radius of Mountain Home) needs assistance, just holler and I will do what I can to help out with a cache or otherwise. Number is in the PAF list.

Agreed! We are more than willing to come to the aide of anyone who needs us. I think this would be a great addition to the phone a friend database.

A short time ago I suggested a place be developed for us to share our prayer requests, support each other with help, and so forth. I am glad to see that this might actually be considered.

Kevin, there is ample contact information on the present PAF. One could tweak the spread to place individuals into regions of the state making the search for helpers more practical when you cache in that region. Could take this concept and ask those on the PAF if they were willing to participate in an ArkGeocache "AAA" of sorts... ?? BTW, the database has had little activity since the first of the year and soon may need updating.. Richard pushes for participation in the group at gatherings. Maybe he could "plug" participation in the PAF and to update one's contact info if pertinent??

Recently as I was dropping off into the unknown world of an evil Dr. Evil Cache in El Dorado, I was wishing I had brought my PAF list just in case I couldn't get back out. I managed to squeeze my fat gut back through without to much trouble but I was a little worried. It was a little after midnight though, I think AFM might have made me wait till morning.

I stumbled across this today. 2 cachers who have passed recently. Not in Arkansas. They are sven or sven&cup or svengalie. His name was Steve Love. He had several geocaching spoilers on Youtube. He died in a house fire(you can read the details online). The other cacher is TXoilgas who has passed. I did not know either cacher. I have watched several of Steve Loves video's online. Coon&Bud

The following is a copy of a post on facebook by Ron White. Please be in prayer for him and his family.

I need a few extra prayers from all my friends out there. Had an MRI on my neck and back a couple of weeks ago. Knew I had problems there, however it also showed a aorta abdominal aneurism below my kidney. Went and got a CT Scan done on Friday and have an appointment with the surgeon next Thursday. Please say a prayer that this thing doesn't decide to burst before I can get it taken care of! Thanks to all!!!

Update on Ron White

As an update, went and saw the surgeon (Fred Meadors) about the abdonimal aorta anuryism this afternoon and yep it's got to come out, soon. He wants me to have a nuclear stress test done, that will be on Monday morning - then when he gets the results from that (mid week probably) they'll call and schedule the surgery at Baptist. Going to have to open me all the way up, so its going to be a pretty big deal. He's saying 6 days in the hospital and off work a good 6 weeks. Well, that's what I know - just keep praying. Don't sound like its going to be a whole lot of fun!! Ha! Bless you all!!!

I'd like to ask that you remember me in your prayers. What started as a tiny blister on my heel in March is now a huge black sore. First, I am a diabetic, although I've never had anything like this happen to me before. I did go to the doctor immediately and he gave me a shot for infection and told me to come back in 4 days. Upon my return he took one look and said "You're going to the hospital." So they kept me for 4 long days and gave me IV antiobotics.

Since I've got out I've had all kinds of tests run (MRI, CTScan, etc.) I've seen specialists and I go weekly to the Wound Clinic where they watch my ulcer closely. The problem is... its not getting any better. I don't have enough blood flow to my foot to get it healed. I had some procedures done last week on my leg to try and encourage better blood flow, but at this point, they don't seemed to have worked...

I meet with the vascular surgeon again next week. Pray he has some good news for me.

Thank you.

Thank you all for your prayers and concern. This was supposed to be our first hospital free trip since July of 2011 before my next scheduled surgery this coming July. Our plans were changed for us. The doctors are on top of his illness and have now changed the IV antibiotic to a second option. Hopefully we will see an improvement of his symptoms sometime tomorrow. They suspect it is being caused by a tick illness. The culture will take several days before we know which one. It helps the long hours in the hospital to know that we are in everyone's thoughts and prayers. Thank you again.

Tim and Ron: we are continuing to pray for you both as well. So happy to hear that you were able to go home Tim. I know it always helps my spirits just to be back home. Hope you both have speedy recoveries.

Charles Shearer (half of Zeke & George) had a heart attack on Friday, June 8th, while in the Miami, FL airport. He is currently in a hospital in Miami and has undergone double bypass surgery. I don't have all the details, but here are a couple of recent emails from his wife Kay (the other half of Zeke & George). Be sure to remember Charles and Kay in your prayers.

Email received 6/13/12

Charles has had double by-pass. Surgery was successful. Replaced front and back arteries with vein from his leg. He has hardened arteries and will need to be treated in the follow-up and future care. Surgeon stated the front artery was like that of a 80+ yr old. Current evident damage has been repaired. I got to go to see him in CCU unit briefly about 4 pm. He was still sedated, and will be for several (6-12?) more hours. Recovery course we’ll take one day at a time.

Breathing a sign of relief...... Kay

Email received 6/15/12

Hello Family & friends,

Yesterday Charles crossed the 24 hr after surgery mark. Charles is slowly getting a little better each day. He remains in the CCU ward, but may get transferred tomorrow. He is experiencing a lots of pain from this major surgery, as expected. Physical therapy has had him up for a very short walk today. First walk he has had since his cardiac arrest on Friday. His appetite has been poor so we have to encourage him to eat. I have even tempted him with M&M’s and “Health Food” (Raisinettes). Chocolate has always been a favorite of his, but even that hasn’t worked yet.

Son, Rob, is here through the weekend. It is good to have him here for moral support. The last 2 days have been tough on all of us.

Hoping to be able to return home soon, just not sure when that will be. Will look at our transportation options, commercial airlines or med flight, when the time comes.

We are taking one day at a time.

Update on Zeke & George (Charles & Kay) - latest email received last night, entitled "The Good News & The Bad News":

Hi Family & Friends,

We got good news and bad news today.

GOOD - Charles was well enough to be released this afternoon. Discharged with new RX and aftercare instructions.

BAD - He has not been cleared to fly home yet! Surgeon would not sign off for him to fly until at least 2 weeks after surgery. Worried about pressure changes and such with flying. He is also not healed enough to make the looonnnngggg three day drive home. So we are stuck here until he sees the surgeon next Tuesday afternoon. Which means there is no chance we can make it home until next Wed. at the earliest. You can not imagine how disappointed we both are about this. So here we are for a while longer...........

He can get “out and about” in the area for short trips as he feels able, but no driving on his part for at least 6 weeks. I guess we’ll figure out how to entertain ourselves around Miami and vicinity. Charles will undoubtedly want to go and find a couple of Geo-caches while we are here. I will be sure to keep him on a short leash, so he doesn’t wear himself out in the summer heat and humidity. Too bad an air boat ride in the Everglades would be too much on him just now. At least I have a rental car and we can get out of the city a bit.

Charles’ cousin Dave and wife Barbara (from Ft Lauderdale vicinity) visited today. It was good to catch up with happenings in their lives.
My sister flew home this AM to Pittsburgh, PA confident that he would get out and we would be on our way tomorrow. She shared our disappointment when I spoke with her tonight. One way or another we will be traveling home next week.

Kay

This morning as we traveled to Hot Springs for another funeral and to keep our grandson, my mom called to say that Pam had passed away. Her mom, my aunt Femmie, is doing much better and is resting. Prayers are being said for you all. 2ter had a two week horrible bout of mono last spring with Temps only controlled with Tylenol and Advil until the Tylenol started eating her liver and her liver enzymes went off the chart so we had to stop the Tylenol. It was a very scary time for us as well. Of course as I'm sure you know that you just want to take the sickness out of the children and put it back onto yourself so they can feel better. Hopefully and pray-fully they both will get this behind them and their parents can get some rest. Please keep us updated on their status.

Thank you arkfiremedic and others that have kept us in your prayers. We are so sorry to hear of 2ter's past illness and are glad she has recovered. Having a sick child is just so heartbreaking.

Naomi's temp finally broke this evening. She will probably remain in the hospital another day or two, but we are hopeful she is on the road towards a full recovery with no setbacks. Her brother, Gavin, is still running a fever with Tylenol. The doctor is monitoring the situation and will be running more tests on him in the morning if the fever doesn't break before then.

Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and long distance hugs.

Naomi got to go home from the hospital today and has returned to her normal, smiley personality. Gavin is still running a low grade temperature so they are watching him closely.

Thank you everyone who has kept us all in their thoughts and prayers. Beth and Matt have felt surrounded by love during this stressful time.
Thank you, Sue and Ken

I just learned that arkfiremedic (Justin Murphree) has been tentatively diagnosed with hypernephroma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renal_cell_carcinoma) on his right kidney and will have to have a nephrectomy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nephrectomy) in the next couple weeks. Justin and his family need our prayers right now! May God be with him during his surgery and recovery.

Thank you ALL for your continued prayers. Just a little update on my current situation for those who may not have or seen FaceBook. Long story short- Chronic Back Pain sent me to my doctor who sent me to Little Rock for Radio Frequency X4 times over the last year to ablate some troublesome nerves in my back. Last 2 times really didn't touch the pain. Repeat MRI detected continued degeneration in my spine among other back ailments but also detected what has been tentatively diagnosed as a large malignant mass on my right kidney (believed to be 'some' of the cause of back pain). Back to Little Rock to a Urologist who has scheduled "robotic partial nephrectomy" which means he will go in and remove the cancerous mass and a "portion" of my right kidney. He believes he can save up to 90% of my right kidney and "hopes" the cancer has not spread. A bone scan will be completed to ensure it has not spread before the surgery date of July 30 at St. Vincent in Little Rock if there is no cancellations before then. Thanks again guys for your continued prayers. Hopefully I'll be back out on the trail soon after!

For all those who have asked about me and my surgery the plan is as follows:

I have to be at St. Vincent in the morning (Tuesday) for all the pre-register paperwork and pre-surgery testing at 08:30 a.m.

I have to be there Wednesday morning at 08:00 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. surgery. The procedure is called a robotic partial nephrectomy where they will take the presumed malignant mass off of my right kidney and a portion of my right kidney. Dr. Mooney said he really didn't know much of my kidney he could save until he got inside and looked around.

Thank you all again for all the cards, texts, well wishes, calls, and especially your prayers.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phillipians 4:13

This is Kerry...Justin wanted me to post an update from his page so that anyone who may not have seen or heard about our day yesterday would know what's going on. He is now post op day one from a suspected renal mass that resulted in a 25% removal of the right kidney. This simple laproscopic procedure resulted in a not so simple trip to the OR twice! Due to the vasculature of this area and degree to which the blood vessels adhered to the kidney there was a significant amount of bleeding that required another trip to the OR to cauterize and stitch some bleeders. His pain was hard to get under control last night/early this morning, but now seems to be resting better. He remains on a PCA (pain pump), and still has issues with the back pain (nothing new; however all this laying on his back isn't helping). IV lines and other tubes/drains remain in place and hopefully as the day progresses, some of these will be discontinued! The goal for today is to walk!?!? Sitting on the bedside this morning was no small task! He's definitely more "with it" today, is asking numerous questions about yesterday and who all came to visit! I would ask that you continue to pray for us as we make this transition and hopefully head home tomorrow! It's going to be a long day!!

This was Kerry's post on Justin's Facebook page this morning.

The following are posts to Facebook by Kerry concerning Justin.

Saturday

After a little derailment this morning things are back on track. He's been up twice, walked once and now only has 1 tube left! Still working on pain issues; an infiltrated iv and subcutaneous pain meds don't do much for a person! He's now on pain pills, resting at the moment. Dr. Mooney came by, path report was + for kidney cancer, but he was able to get it all!! Thanks be to God!!! 95% chance that it'll never return; in the meanwhile he'll take immune supplements which according to the doc helps fight off/prevent kidney cancer. Kidney function is completely normal, blood count still a little low, but stable. Just redrew to check it again...he will follow him for routine scans going forward. If things continue to progress, potential discharge late today!!! I definitely have my fingers crossed!! We're both passed ready to be home!!

Sunday AM

His blood count has fallen to 7/19. No discharge today! He will be getting a transfusion and we'll just have to wait and see what the next blood count shows. Usually one unit will raise the blood count by about 3. I hope and pray this will put a little pep back in his step! He really feels bad and even said today he didn't feel like he could go home. Knowing him, you know that's not a good sign! It seems his pain is a little better, his output and ambulation have been great! I definitely think him being "a quart low" has knocked him down! So we will remain here, watching and waiting...

Sunday PM

Not a lot has changed today. The transfusion is complete, blood has been drawn and we're waiting for results. He says he feels a little bit better, but not much. His color is a little improved. I'm hoping tomorrow we are able to see the real results of the blood! He managed to get his 3 walks in today only to be followed by extreme fatigue which takes several hours to recoup. In the meantime please continue to keep us all in your prayers.

Keep praying for Justin, Kerry and Rachel.

This post was from Kerry on August 5th.

Things really took off this morning! Dr. Mooney came by and gave us the word!! By 0845 JP drain was out, midline IV was out, and discharge papers were in hand!! We are home, he's had a shower, and he continues to rest. I want to thank you all for your prayers, calls, texts, visits, messages, positive and encouraging words, and ALL the other things that have been done for us over the past 7 days!!

Please continue to remember Justin in your prayers as he recovers.

I saw this posted on fb from James Crabill, Hot-Rod, thought those of you not on fb might want to know.

My body has rejected and is rebelling my efforts to keep it in line. I have an angiogram and most likely an angioplasty tomorrow morning. Elevated blood pressure led to an EKG that led me to a cardiologist who seems pretty confident (and concerned) that I have some blockage that needs to be addressed. Your prayers would be most appreciated.
