Alltel / Verizon

Many of us use our cell phones for lots of stuff, including geocaching. My old tried and true Motorola E815M cell phone has been a good one, but, now is on it's last leg. With the memory card I can shoot 3 minute videos, ect..
My question is this:
Would there be any advantage to getting a new high tech phone ( multi media ) before the Verizon take over ? Or would you advise to wait until the dust settles ?

As a former salesman for Alltel (via a corporate Radio Shack) I would highly recommend upgrading to a razr v2 before the takeover, due to the fact that Verizon locks a lot of the features of their phones out, unlike alltel which leaves them as the designer intended.
