Magellan SporTrak Pro Data Cable

Have any of you had trouble with the data cable on the SporTrak Pro (or similar)? Ours recently bit the dust, as did my brother-in-law's a few months ago.

Just wondering if this is a common problem, because if it is, I probably won't spend the money to buy a new cable...

I have a new one but never used it. My sportrak gets on my nerves due to the "slingshot Effect" that the sportrak is well known for.
