I recently purchased a Magellan Explorist 500le and just returned from a excursion to White Rock mountain. I am not 100% familiar with the unit yet but it appears that the local forest service roads are not available with the software that came with the unit. I have looked into purchasing the new 3d topo maps that Magellan offers but unfortunately when you call the customer service / tech support they were unable to give me the detailed information that I was requesting. Does anyone know whether or not the forest roads would be visible on the unit if I purchased the software or if there is another software program available that would do such a thing? Thank you for any information that you can provide....

Get the Mapsend TOPO. It is worth the $ and has plenty of detail around White Rock. Mapping products for Magellan and Garmin are proprietary, but any number of programs generate waypoints that you can download to the GPS and layered onto the map.
