It looks like the Louisiana Geocachers are up to it again. Apparently, I've been elected as the official "go invite the other states" guy, so here goes. :)
Louisiana's Geocachers are once again hosting a geocaching campout event.
The event is scheduled for October 9, 2004 and is in the West / Southwest corner of the state -- Yeah, it's a long haul for anyone is Arkansas, but you never know where you might be on any given day, right?
Here's a snippet from a news article on the main page at lageocaching.com:
This time around, the camping will be in the Kisatchie National Forest -- in a little town called Fullerton located in Vernon Parish. For sure, this should attract the attention of some of our Texas friends.
The campground is at the site refered to by the rangers as the Fullerton Recreation Area and is controlled by the Kisatchie National Forests' Calcasieu Ranger District (Vernon unit). The campground is recently renovated and offers such amenities as drinking water, flush toilets, tent pads, fire rings, and can accomodate small to medium sized travel trailers (no eletricity!).
The Fullerton area is also home to one of Louisiana's oldest geocaches, Fullteron Former Factory Find. There are plenty of hiking, ATV, and horseback riding trails in the area. Maps are available at the Calcasieu Ranger District link above.
If you are in to military aircraft, or just big machines in general... there is always a possibility of witnessing an unannounced air show complliments of our nation's protectors at nearby Fort Polk.
We hope some of Y'all can make it. If you can, please drop a note on the cache page (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=2ebf826c-b49a-45ce-8ec6-5f6f9a57cd5a) so we'll know who and what to expect.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled geocaching...
