    caching in a forest fire

While logging our find for Ridge Ruuner at Charlton , over a mile from the trailhead, we looked up and saw, holy smoke..only not so holy , a genuine forest fire , with black heavy smoke bllowing and cascading our way .Luckily , the wind was somewhat in our favor but the fire was approaching. Our legs , inspired by the sight , began ' hot footing' us outa there. We had never contemplated the thought of burning alive. Spontaneously , we both decided if the fire caught us ,we would hold one another , pray , and go our way. A favorable wind continued , slowed the progress of the fire , and we came home. I,m not sure we will ever cache again in deep woods under such dry , windy conditions . Scanning the area with binoculars before hiking in has become a must for us.

Glad the outcome was good for you. Hope the forest wasn't too damaged.
