    Origami

What does that have to do with Geocaching? Maybe nothing. But if you Geocache with a PDA maybe a lot. The product hasn't been released but it is supposed to be soon. I understand that there will be models with a GPS available.

This undated image provided by Microsoft Corp. shows the new Project Origami, an ultracompact and portable computer running Windows XP with a touchscreen and wireless connectivity. It has a 7-inch touch-sensitive screen that responds to a stylus or the tap of a finger. (AP Photo/Microsoft Corp.)

Code name Origami falls by the wayside.
Now it is UMPC, ultra mobile personal computer.
Here is a link where you can download the beta test version of the software to see if it displays as your current browser does.

And my family thinks I am a gadget nut!
May those who love us, love us. And those that don't love us, may God turn their hearts; and if he doesn't turn their hearts may he turn their ankle so we may know them by their limp.... An Old Gaelic Blessing

    I admit it!

    But consider this:

NO MORE hooking up cables for GPS uploading
NO MORE messing with converters for laptop power
NO MORE hanging up on cables running all over heck and back
NO MORE field notes, do it real time!

Just grab it and go. Update GSAK will you're driving down the highway.

But right now, the reality is:
    short battery life
    expensive

It may be that celluar carriers will subsidize the devices like they are doing now with PDA's and bring the cost down some. There may be a rescue for battery life on the way in the way of fuel cells.

Five years. We will be in a different world!
