I did not take the time to read ALL the poposed bill. Thinking about the subject has me torn in two directions. I can understand the fragility of historic and archaeological sites and the need to restrict the amount of traffic.

But I do not understand the prohibition of caches in cemeteries. When we first began caching I was a bit uncomfortable in those locations but I soon
    A: got more comfortable personally.
B: figured out that looking around is fairly natural there.
C: began to enjoy the interesting history.
D: learned quite a bit that would never come to my attention otherwise.
E: discovered that others seem to enjoy the visits.

Our cache placements are located in a manner to avoid any desecration whatsoever and we think they are tastefully done; however tasteful is in the eye of the beholder.

We have several caches that would be affected if such a law was passed in Arkansas. If you would like to read those cache pages and the logs the caches are:

    Cader Lee
    I See Dead People
    Just Off Of The Mounds
    Crawford The Crawfish
    The Troll Hole
    Lefty Loosey - Righty Tighty
    Yellow Hornet

This represents about 10% of our currently active caches.

I do not want to hijack this thread to start a discussion about caches in cemeteries. I do disagree with the SC proposed law in regard to them. I will start another topic to discuss caches in cemeteries....poppy

There has finally been an official update on this. The legislation was discussed openly. The results do not look good. Read more here:

If you own a cemetary cache, please monitor logs/pictures for innapropriate behavior.

I urge every member of this site to read the entry by TinSparrow that is provided by the link in the above log.

    http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/ind...howtopic=95351

It can be an eye opener. What we write in our logs and the pictures we up load can help us and hurt us and anyone that is trying to protect our sport. This entry by TinSparrow shows us exactly how some muggles may view our sport, just because of what we, ourselves, write. Please take a moment and read it.

How very sad that a few bad apples can hurt the repetation of a such a fun, educational family sport.

The first post of the following thread is an account of the 2nd meeting on the proposed bill. The author is a geocacher who was present.

I just received this from the OKgeocachers site pretty interesting.

South Carolina Legislature proposes limits on geocaching.

The 2 URL's posted below are stories from a newspaper in South
Carolina. I will have to agree with some of the achers from Texas.
These muggles need better things to do, but cachers who caused these
article to be written should have known better that to place caches in
    those areas.
