The Wherigo thread inspired this thread. There is a very old thread on this forum regarding Chirps and ANT+ technology. I found only one mention but there could be more so bare with me.

About ANT+ http://www.thisisant.com/company/

Several Android flagship phones now come with ANT+ technology installed on the phone from the factory. This number will increase. ANT+ is primarily used for sensors you have near or on your body for fitness and health BUT it just so happens they can read the Chirp sensors used in geocaching. That is no big surprise though because Garmin acquired Dynastream Innovations which is a leader in the field of personal monitoring technology (ANT+).

I have supplied a wikipedia link that displays a list of current phones with the technology built in. I don't know how accurate it is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ANT+ There is another list here. http://www.thisisant.com/consumer/ant-101/ant-in-phones

iPhone owners do not have the technology installed on their phones but can buy a $50 dongle that will allow you to use the technology. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-the-go/mobileaccessories/ant-adapter-for-iphone/prod103887.html

I personally own a Samsung Galaxy S4 which has the ANT+ technology installed. There are a few app choices but I installed ANT+ Plugin Sampler. When I arrived at GZ I opened the app. You touch "Geocache Utility" and you'll see the word "searching". Within 20 seconds a new window will appear.

This new window will provide a bunch of information but we are only concerned with two things. Latitude and longitude. It is provided in a decimal format so be prepared for that. The photo below is generic but looks exactly like what was on my screen with all fields populated. Didn't want to give the coordinates away. LOL

There may or may not be several of you that disregard the chirp caches because you do not have a Garmin GPS with this ability. If you have one of the listed phones that is no longer an issue. If anyone has any questions I'd be more than glad to help. It is pretty straight forward. If your phone has the technology download the sample plugin app. Go to GZ and run the app. The information you need will be provided. WALK.
