President’s Report to the Board

April 19th, 2013

As of Friday, April 19th, there are a total of 279 registered voters, giving us an increase of 10 since last quarter, and 26 since July 1, 2012..

We are happy to say that Ron White has decided he can fulfill the rest of his elected term, and we are happy to have him back.

Arkgeo hosted 3 meet and greet events in the last quarter. Newport, El Dorado, and Monticello. Thanks to The Lasters, Morgan O’Neal, and Jim Sick for hosting these events.

The ArkGeo web site still continues to perform well and once again I would like to thank Kevin Cackler for all his hard work keeping us going. It is much appreciated.

A great big Thanks to all of those who volunteer and spend some of their time promoting ArkGeo and geocaching in the state of Arkansas.

Garvin Gardens update! Thanks to Ron and Maribeth for their work on helping to get these 3 caches up and running!!!!! Here is the run down.

Ron and Maribeth met with a horticulture staff member to assist in placing caches around Garvin Gardens. One cache is located inside the pay area (Fee Attribute should be on the cache page) and the other two caches accessible to anyone without a fee but at some very nice places. The one placed inside the fee part of the garden is well worth the walk (or ride in a golf cart)! Ron and Maribeth left the contact information so they could be contacted if any help is needed in setting up the cache pages.

In talking with Michael Goff, one of the TV stations is working on a summer segment that will relate to outdoor cooking\camping and at times, Geocaching. We discussed how to get ArkGeo mentioned in a few of the segments.

Rotary Club has not called back after canceling two times.

Events Committee prepared by Jim Sick (Board Liason)

There have been three ArkGeo events held since the last board meeting. On February9, rklmbl hosted the Southwest Meet and Greet in Eldorado. On February 23, drmo913 hosted ArkGeo Eat N Greet Welcome to Newport in Newport and on March 26 sayitagain hosted the Southeast Eat N Greet in Monticello.

Plans are still in the making for the Annual Meeting that is to take place the weekend of June 8 & 9 at the Witt Stephens Game and Fish Nature Center in Little Rock. For those who have not had the opportunity to visit the Nature Center this will be a real treat as it is a fantastic facility. For those wishing to camp, camping is available at Maumelle Park which is about 7 miles from the Nature Center. Sites rent for either 22 or 26 dollars based on how close you want to be to the river. I have scanned the brochure showing the location of the camp sites and anyone interested in receiving the brochure just contact me with a regular email address and I'll be happy to send it.
