View Full Version : Page for Great Geocaches

I have been checking out other organization's geocaching webpages lately. One thing I have seen on a lot of them is a section that lists "Must Do" geocaches in the area. Most of them are broken up into categories, such as best puzzles, best micros, best historical, best virtuals, most scenic, etc. I would like to get something like this going on our website, to show off some of our truly remarkable caches in the state.

So I was trying to think of a good way to get a page like this started. One idea that came to mind, is that we could have some kind of semi-annual nomination process. We could then take those nominations and vote on the best ones. Those would then make the list.

I didn't think long on this, so any other ideas are welcome as well. Hell, shoot my idea down, I don't care. :D Just let me know what ya think.

I think this is a great idea. Must do page or even a favorite cache page so you could let everyone know about a cache that had that something special and what you liked about it.

Good idea. Have you ever gone to ORR's profile and look out how he has listed some of his finds finds. Fun.

What about a FAV for the state and 5 Different Fav's for regions?

I like this idea, too. Maybe like a top 10 list? Is that sort of what you had in mind?

Here's an example of another organization's top caches page:

Middle Tennessee Geocacher's Club (http://www.mtgc.org/hits/)

I'd like to see something like that happen here. I'm not sure what is the best way of deciding what caches to put on the list, however.

I'll see if I can find some modules that do this...

I like this idea a lot!!

I nominate summersunny9's "It's All Falling Together Now". It has elevated itself to our number one most favorite, prettiest, most picturesque, biggest adventure, good cache and area in the state. We love it!

I like ladyengineer's krispy kreme container - I understand that jerry-bonnie-abby had a hand in that.

Best mystery - my personal favorite is woodwalker's It Happens Every Spring. I understand he's working on a new series too.

And then there is Muggle's Box by bebopishere.

Hmmmm, I might have to have a top 100!!

I think this is agreat idea. It will help inform everyone of the better caches that they might not otherwise get to hunt.

Well this idea has kind of fallen by the wayside, so I'll try to inject some life into it.

As many of you probably already know, Geocaching.com has recently instituted a new feature on their website called bookmarks. You can make bookmark lists of caches and share them with people. I think these are a great way of letting other people know about some of the Cream of the Crop caches that are around. Anyway, I went through my cache finds and tried to find my Top 10%. Here's what I came up with:

RuffRidr's Favorites (http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=7803e598-b948-4736-af07-a103d26fd977)

Anybody else feel like sharing their favorites? If enough people share, maybe we could add a page that links to the favorites. Maybe that could substitue for a page that lists the local outstanding caches.

Sure, I'll play! Keep in mind that we don't have a huge amount of caches under our belt, but of the ones we have found, here is our Top Ten list:

Gaddiel and OrangeDanish's Top Ten (http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=f41ab760-7e38-4947-959d-a8d9f44a6bae)

Team Rock Hound's Top Ten (http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=477dd7d9-3897-45cf-a44a-d970e107a0ff)

However, I have only found 135 caches.

We are going to try to get this list posted. Our all time favorites contains nine caches in Arkansas and two that are elsewhere. This is the list of caches that we could remember. Others may come to mind later.

Would someone please tell me what is wrong here? Thanks...poppy

Here is my top 10 list. It now stands at 11 caches and is sure to grow when I visit Glory Hole. Two of these are out of state - Maine and Alabama. Most of them require hiking and are not particularly easy.

Cedar Creek is a multi that requires you to find two additional caches and will take you to near the falls in Petit Jean. Also, be sure to read my "found it" log on geocaching.com for Kings River Falls to see why it is my favorite.

We have added a couple of caches to our listing that were supposed to be there originally but poppy forgot.

http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/vie ... a7dcac6e04 (http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=08ef3fce-7320-4537-9676-1ca7dcac6e04)

Would someone please explain to me how to make this be hidden and words like nonnipoppy's favorites link to this list.

The trick is to hit the URL button, then put the URL within the []'s. Then put the name in between the beginning and end tags. It should look like this:

Is that clear as mud?

We think that would be great.. Maybe voting online after a short list is compiled. We like to cache in other states and these lists can help you streamline your hunting list.
