Where to get supplies for caching!!!

i have often pulled up to a cache and said hey that container is cool or a string of caches that you end up thinking why did they use a $5 nano when they could have used a free film container or a pill bottle. With that being said, i want to start a thread that we can fill people in on good finds or deal for supplies, containers, coins, ect.

so here is what i found today!

deer season is approaching and fire tacks are in a big supply at Gander Mountain NLR. They are in the back by the Lodge on an end cap facing the back wall. $2.99 per 50 and they have white and orange.

I was there trying to get a donation for door prizes for the cache bash. They don't do donations now BUT i did find out that we can use their conference room called the Lodge any time as long as you schedule it. you are allowed to bring in lunch and it has a projector and screen, DVD player and VHS. not sure about the internet connection. this would be a great place to do another GSAK meeting in the future.

I started using 15mm polypro test tubes from U.S. Plastic Corporation a year or so back. They're cheap $22.70 per 100 and totally water proof. I used a lot of them on the Ferndale to Paron series and haven't had a problem one with them. I usually paint them black and then on some I wrap them with camo duct tape. For the log, I cut a cheap drinking straw to the length of the tube and tape a log to the straw, roll it up and put it in the tube. Works great.

Anywhere! the only problems I have encountered is cachers who do not reseal the bottle after signing their name. Some of mine have even had cachers leave the cap off?! I use a dowel rod cut to the size of the container and paint them with Krylon Plastic Paint. I try my best to tether all my bsb's to something to help keep them in their original location. The plastic paint works well and I've had no problem at all with painting them.

Drives Cache Closet out of Mesquite, Texas http://www.drivescachecloset.com/ We've used this place for cache containers and even given them ideas and low and behold they have come up with what we asked for....like tools and logs for nanos, etc. We met the drives team several years ago when we found some of their Famous People caches in Dallas, which are awesome. After we wrote our logs, they contacted us and wanted us to join them for dinner and we had a great visit and a geofriendship was formed. They've been to several Arkansas events and brought friends to Arkansas to cache.

We have a lot of the small BSB's. I can't remember if I saw any of the larger ones or not, maybe a few.

Wal-mart and Walgreens will usually give the used ones to you for free, if they have any on hand. All you have to do is go by the photo department and ask for them.

I went into our Walgreens and asked for some. She replied, "Sure, I used to save them for this young man who did . . . geocaching, but he's moved away." I chuckled and replied, "Well, keep saving them as that is one reason I'd like to have them." (science stuff for the boys is another) She then let me take as many as I liked. ;)

Speaking of which---is there a reason we use the ones with the lid snapping on the outside, compared to on the inside? I wasn't sure if it's just due to the color or water-resistant issues----or we just haven't found enough to see them on the playing field. ;)

Ahh yes there is a difference. The outside ones take on more water. The inside snap tends to be more water proof. However please keep in mind that they are all plastic and sunlight degrades plastic. Any plastic can placed where water can surround it will suffer from the water. I have seen some of the outside snaps placed up side down off the ground so that water will not run into the can. You could fill the sink or a pan with water and put enough weight inside to sink the can and see which takes on water. The best reason to use the inside snaps for me is that the lid stays on better.
