Hey, I mentioned this site and what our club does on MidSouthJeeps.com during a geocaching information thread and several people have told me their IP is blocked. Could this restriction possibly be lifted? I'm sure the IP block was a range that included some spammers or something, as we usually don't have too many people we just have to "kick off" due to violence or language.

I could get the IP in question if needed, They are mainly from north AR and MO.

The guy took a screenshot and it says"

all ip's between 76.96.00 and 76.125.63.255 is denied on this site

Is there a reason for this block?

I had this same issue, when I was in North Carolina in June. I don't think we will be having any new memebers from NC, since it does not border Arkansas, but it was darn frustrating to be out there for a week, with no Arkgeo.
I just assumed it was an attempt at blocking Viagra sales pitches, and I have noticed a definite downturn in the amount of spam. :D :D :D

I have too, perhaps our software upgrade will help with spammers without blocking complete ip ranges. I know the guys up in mo would like to see us.

If you could get me the IP address of the person(s) who is/are having issues, I'll do my best to get them going...

I just returned from 12 days in Illinois and tried to get on-line using my relative's computer since they do not have wireless. I could not access the web-site at all due to the IP issue. Had major ArkGeo Forum withdrawls! RBG

Can we try again at allowing the ip ranges to exist?

Prize Seekers from Northern Louisiana contacted me about them trying to sign up on the site and having a blocked ip as well. Don't know much about this blocked ip thing, but I would like to see all the people who want to sign up to be able to. I realize the spammer problem and allowing unknown ip's being a double edged sword, but if people cannot access the site and become members then eventually our membership will dwindle to non-existent levels. Just a thought...

Here is the copy of the email I received:

Justin,

We've been trying to get on the Arkansas site to post a forum topic about the upcoming event at D'arbonne. It keeps telling us our ip is blocked. We were wondering if you were able to get on the site? We don't know how to alert everyone in your area about the event. If you can logon to your site, could you do us a huge favor and post a quick topic about it? The gc# is GC1Y49A We would appreciate it so much especially since GoldBugGirl is concerned that not enough people will show up. She has put so much work into this!

Thanks so much and we're looking forward to seeing you and 2ter there!

Prize Seekers

P.S. The event sounds V E R Y interesting for those who may can attend as well.

I e-mailed Gaddiel the first three in the IP range like 192.168.3. and just left the last number off. This may help for a temporary basis, but we should really go to a tougher security setup. I have seen the ones where it ask you "Write the output of eight plus two divided by two" and you type "5" in the box. This could be added in addition to our image.

"Write the output of eight plus two divided by two" and you type "5" in the box.

That sort of math may be too advanced for some of us here...

Then we'll have to use a word question...Like "What former president is from Arkansas?" or "What word is 'geo' short for?"

No seriously...could we lax the security a bit here or are we under attack that bad? If we are, this is a popular message board platform, we should be able to find a fix for it.

Hey there, Mark S here. Have been given access to some of the functionality of the website. Did some digging, and the only IPs I can find that are being blocked by the website itself if 85.0.0.0 to 85.255.255.255 (any address starting with 85.) and is dated 2007-03-03 @ 23:44:25. Unless the server or router are blocking other numbers, these should be the only ones blocked. If you find a computer that is block, please go to www.whatismyip.com (http://www.whatismyip.com), and write down the IP address from this site as it will be the address that would be blocked. Should show 85.##.##.## if blocked. If so, we can change this range to try to allow people to get on.
