mbl noted this morning that there were 173 new caches placed in Arkansas during the month of July 2007. This was the highest number of caches ever placed in Arkansas in a one-month period. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to place a cache for all of us to enjoy.

By the way, if anyone else in interested in this stuff :? , the following caches are currently active:

Calendar Year Placed - Number of Active Caches
2000 - 1
2001 - 16
2002 - 47
2003 - 126
2004 - 291
2005 - 473
2006 - 1076
2007 thru 8-5-2007 - 905

Awesome!

I just placed my first cache, too, but that would land in August stats. It's addicting and I'll probably hit the surplus store for a few more ammo cans before the week is out for some new ones! :P

Thanks for the numbers. It's always interesting to see these kind of statistics. Maybe we can beat that number this month. There have already been 15 placed this month so far. Keep 'em coming everyone.

Hey Cachecrazies,

Them are some very impressive numbers posted from last month, but I think we can beat them  what do you think :?: Are you up for the challenge :?:

Hey flyfishingguide - we're up for your challenge! And will respond to your challenge by extending it to the whole group! Let's make August the best month that Arkansas has ever had! We're just a few short of having 3000 active caches in Arkansas - let's hit that point!

In this area we're all trying to place new caches for those of you that are coming to the JAKES event so the timing on this is great for us!

We know we have to put a lot out there because rklmbl (the caching machines) are coming and they eat caches up like Peanut Butter Pie and BBQ! So we have to be ready for them!

You guys are killing me !!! 8O I need a raise ! :x

Seriously, it's great to see my review queue holding at least 5 new caches almost every night when I sit down to do my reviews! Geocaching is alive and well in Arkansas! Just keep 'em maintained so I don't have to get after you! Unfortunately, I have to archive several each month due to lack of owner maintenance. :(

As of now there have been 105 caches hidden in the month of Aguust. No wait make that 106. What's this, another one pops up as I type. Make that 107 as of right now.

10 minutes later there are 112. Looks like we may have a shot at beating that record after all.

According to my count August is now the record month for caches placed. I count 178 placed last month. Great job everyone!! Now if I can just find the time to go find them all.

I was just thinking about the numbers yesterday while driving from one cache to another. I knew there had been a lot of caches hidden in October but I did not think it was that many. Thanks to everyone that hid new caches. I echo RKLMBL's thanks to ChuckWalla for volunteering the time to review and post all of those caches. It can't be an easy job. I scouted out several places yesterday for some new caches and hope to have quite a few new ones out in the next few weeks. Ya'll come find'em and hide some more for me.

Coming from a newcomer to Geocaching, looks like Gorilla Stash (GC1B) is the only remaining cache from 2000, how long has it been since there was more than 1? Did it really take several months to get a FTF on it?

I just checked and the New total for Arkansas is 4003, we finally did it :!: 4K :D
Congratulations to all the cachers who have been placing caches, I am so happy for every cache placed, lets not stop here.
I would also like to thank our poor(underpaid and overworked) volunteer reviewer CHUCK WALLA on all the caches approved by him/her. I am pretty sure that Chuck has approved more caches than anyone else in Arkansas.
FANTASTIC JOB, CHUCK!
It is a thankless job dealing with so many different personalities  8O 8) :? :) :( and trying to improve caching in Arkansas.

I don't know if rklmbl is still keeping count, but here's some news. On 11/1/07, rklmbl said that October 2007 was a record setting month for caches published, with 189 caches coming out that month. Well, I'm happy to report that July 2008 now holds the record, shattering the old one with 326 new caches coming out that month! Three dates stand out:

July 14 -- 59 caches published (most of which were part of the ParkCache series)
July 18 -- 47 caches published (most of which were for the breakfast event held in Hot Springs)
July 6 -- 38 caches published (don't know the significance of this date, except that it was at the end of the 4th of July holiday weekend)

Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to take a nap. I'm tired.

8O WOW!!! 8O 326 caches in July! Way to go!

Hey, rklmbl, how many caches have been published this year? It must already be a record! Or at least we're well on the way to setting one.

There are currently 1427 active geocaches in Arkansas that were published in 2008. I know there have been several published have been archived already that aren't included in that number. At the end of 2007, there were 1597 active geocaches--currently 1405 active 2007 geocaches...nearly 200 archived in 2008. So, all that being said, we are well on our way to breaking records in 2008. I knew Chuck Walla had been publishing caches right and left during July, but 326---WOW!!!!!! 8O

Current active cache numbers by year published are:

Year - Number of Caches

2000 - 1
2001 - 15
2002 - 42
2003 - 112
2004 - 261
2005 - 408
2006 - 923
2007 - 1405
2008 - 1427

Total - 4594

I keep my records by the date on the geocache page, not the date it was actually published. So, if someone dates a geocache page in April or May but it doesn't actually get submitted to Chuck Walla and published until July, it will show up in my numbers as an April or May cache. That was the case with a lot of the State Parks caches. A lot of them were published in July but dated as far back as April.

And, in the immortal words of Forrest Gump, "that's all I have to say about that." mbl

Been playing with GSAK. Thought people might find this interesting. As of my last database update, there were 4774 active caches in AR. Below is a table of those with 50 or more owned caches.

Last weekend Woodwalker celebrated his 5K what about Arkansas.
It looks like we are 53 away now and it would be nice to see the state hit a milestone before the end of the year.
Does anybody want to add a few to our state this year?

Thank you to everyone who has placed a cache in Arkansas! Without your hard work, creativity, and dedication we wouldn't have such a great time with this amazing hobby. Our New Year's resolution (which we hope to not break) is to get busy planning and hiding more caches. Happy Caching and Thank You, Nukeworker and Racquetball Girl :P
